The lineage of Visionary Craniosacral work® can be traced beyond the late 20th century, to the time of Andrew Taylor Still, founder of Osteopathy.
AT Still was of Scottish ancestry, from a land rich in indigenous Gaelic knowledge and culture. It is perhaps no coincidence of Still’s great reverence of his time spent with the indigenous Shawnee people, and how spending time amongst them he “learned all they could teach about healing sickness “. This influence played a central role in his vision of Osteopathy.
Visionary Craniosacral work (VCSW)® is the life’s work of Hugh Milne, visionary, osteopath and whose own grandfather was a direct pupil of Stills at the Kirksville school of Osteopathy in Missouri. It is perhaps no surprise too of Milnes Scottish upbringing.
VCSW® is a soothing, non-invasive hands-on modality of the craniosacral system.
In Gaelic the root of the word ‘Gaoithe’ means both wind and Spirit, the indigenous Navajo people in their tongue say ‘nilch´í hwii siziinii,’ to refer to the ‘little wind inside’. WG Sutherland, another pupil of Stills and founder of cranial work referred to the cranial wave by quoting the book of Genesis ‘the breath of life’.
This ‘wind’ essence is a silent force which blows through the craniosacral system, animates it and infuses it with information and intelligence.
It is possible to listen to this ‘wind’. The ability to do this Hugh Milne called the ‘Heart of listening’.
VCSW® offers in-depth avocational training in the heart of listening. These classes are continuing education to physical care professionals.
It is with great reverence that these classes come to Ireland, to a land rich in creativity, healing tradition and an ancient culture.
