Benefits of Craniosacral Therapy

Who benefits?

CST is highly regarded by parents of newborns who see great improvements with issues around feeding, digestion, bonding, sleeping, colic and unexplained crying. Patterns of compression and restriction can be laid down by a baby’s birth experiences and time in utero.

In older children and adults, a wide range of physiological issues are supported with the understanding that imbalances in the structure and function of the body usually have underlying emotional components as well. CST is useful both as a primary treatment method and in combination with other complementary approaches.

'Our Health is our Wealth'

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) has a long history of development through the life and work of AT Still, WG Sutherland and John E Upledeger. This gentle hands-on method enhances the function of the craniosacral system; a physiological and energetic system that helps protect and assist the delicate tissues of our nervous system; such as the brain, spinal cord and fine nerve fibres.

Craniosacral Therapy, a vital approach for our modern world.CST sessions are a welcome antidote to rekindle vitality and calm amidst the increasing demands of our fast-paced high-tech society. The premise behind Craniosacral bodywork is that life events are perceived by the body through the sensory network of cranial nerves. Although the body constantly seeks safety and health, when shocking events are endured including trauma of any kind; injuries, physical or emotional, the body’s natural healing function may temporarily be inhibited. Disease or dysfunctions of some kind may arise.

By restoring the function of the Autonomic Nervous System, which consists of the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, CST helps the body to heal and repair. Relational touch coupled with the safety and restful nature of CST sessions allows the body to move away from defensive activated sympathetic states to deeply restful parasympathetic states that allow the body to unwind, digest and sleep.

Relaxation has long been valued for its healing and restorative effects on the body and encouraging deep states of relaxation in the body is easily facilitated by Craniosacral therapy. The main centres of the nervous system lie in the cranial and sacral regions and the gentle contact of CST modulate the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, optimizing the function of both.

Many individuals incorporate CST into their personal wellness and maintenance programmes opting for treatments as a preventative measure rather than waiting until ill or in pain.
