Karen O'Shaughnessy
After a fall down a flight of stairs fractured my coccyx and injured my lower back in the late 1990’s, I had recurring episodes of pain and dysfunction. While medication helped me deal with the symptoms I proactively searched for anything else that might help. I tried many different therapies and found Energetic Massage Therapy (EMT), Myofascial Release (MFR) and Craniosacral Therapy (CST) to be the most effective therapeutic modalities that provided long term relief.
I was very curious to understand how such progressively light-touch therapies could have such a significant impact, not only on the physical body but on every aspect of my being. I found myself satisfying my curiousity by training in all three modalities over the course of 14 years. What started as a search to help a physical ailment became an ongoing search to help myself as work and life challenges, stress, depression, loss of a sense of self and the illness and death of a number of close family members occured, over the years.
I now practice primarily as a Craniosacral Therapist. For me it combines the best of all three therapies. I have found it to be the most wide-ranging, gentle and effective of therapies that continues to support me, in every aspect of my life. I consider it a great gift to have found the therapy, to receive it and to be able to share it with anyone who wishes to try it for themselves.
My intention as a Therapist is to provide a safe, clear and professional therapeutic space for my clients, where every aspect of their being is respected; physical, emotional, mental & spiritual.
So whether my clients have a recurring medically unexplained pain or symptom, are suffering with stress, in the midst of an emotional or existential crisis or just want to try and establish a deeper connection with themselves, all are welcome to my non-denominational practice.
I am qualified to Advanced Level in Craniosacral Therapy. I have also undertaken additional training in Craniosacral Therapy around Paedriatics, Life Milestones (endings), Death and Dying. I am a member of the Irish Association of Craniosacral Therapists (IACST) and volunteer as a teaching assistant at various Upledger Institute Ireland, Craniosacral Therapy training courses and Irish Association of CranioSacral Therapists Sample Days.
In my parallel life I have fulfilled various roles, the primary one as a 'career woman' in Marketing and Brand Managment, climbing the corporate ladder (and doing my best not to fall off!), for over 25 years.
