IACST presence at the ALCI Conference 2018

Friday28 & Saturday 29 September – Glenroyal Hotel, Maynooth, Co. Kildare

- (Fri) Lorraine Houlihan, Dee Reilly and Jean McDonald

- (Sat)Lorraine Houlihan and Heath Wilson

Feedback from the IACST stand at the ALCI conference is very positive.

The stand was busy with lots of interest from Lactation Consultants and Public Health Nurses. They reported that they are hearing about it from mothers and very interested in knowing more.

One of the workshops held on Friday afternoon  entitled ‘Structural Issues in Babies and Breastfeeding’ addressed structural issues. One  recommendation in addressing structural issues isthat  babies receive some form of bodywork - CST being one of the recommended therapies. Local Lactation consultants could be considered a good contact for therapists.

There were a number of queries on whether CST fees are refundable under healthcare policies.

Overall, numerous  positive opportunities for networking presented and a few key contacts made: -

1. Holles St Breastfeeding Clinic - Invitation received to speak to midwives on CST, with a focus on how CST can help with tongue tie, support good, non painful latch-on andbreastfeeding. Lorraine will be following up to agree date.

2. Dr. Justin Roche, Consultant Paediatrician, Sth Tipp General Hospital. Justin also runs a private Tongue tie and Lip tie clinic in Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. He has a country wide patient list and recommends CST as part of post release treatment for each client. He has offerred IACST therapists, an evening ‘Tongue Tie Information Session’. It will also be an opportunity for Justin to meet therapists for onward referral. Heath has followed up. Theagreed date is Saturday 13th October at Taravie Hotel, Courtown, Co. Wexford (within 5 minutes drive from Camphill Community Space, Duffcarrig, where the IACST AGM 2018 is being held). All members are welcome.

3. Margaret Hynes, Senior Midwife, Limerick Hospital - Invitation issued to Heath to make a presentation to a group of new mums in Limerick on 26 November next.

Thanks toUna Reynolds for assisting the IACST Committee to ensure cover at the IACST stand. Thanks to the therapists who represented IACST at the conference and to those who helped fundraise at the multi-hands family day earlier this Summer.
